Hide Twitch Stories and Everything Else You Do Not Use
Stories pushed your followed channels further down the sidebar and there is no setting to turn them off. Previews hides them with one toggle - and can hide every other sidebar section too, so the only thing left is the list of people you actually follow.
Can you turn off Twitch Stories?
Twitch has no built-in setting to hide Stories. The row sits at the top of the left sidebar and on the Following page whether you use it or not. A browser extension is the only way to remove it - in Previews it is a single toggle called Hide Stories in Sidebar.
The complaint is rarely about Stories themselves. It is that they take the top of the sidebar, which is the space people were using to see who is live. Every row added above your followed channels pushes the channels you opened Twitch for further down.
How to hide Twitch Stories
Install Previews, open the settings panel from the toolbar icon, and enable Hide Stories in Sidebar in the Sidebar section. Refresh your Twitch tab and the Stories row is gone. No configuration, and it stays hidden across sessions.
- Install Previews from the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, or Edge Add-ons.
- Click the Previews icon in your browser's toolbar.
- Open the Sidebar section and enable Hide Stories in Sidebar.
- Refresh your Twitch tab.
How do I get rid of recommended channels too?
Enable Hide All Sidebar Sections Except The Followed Channels. It removes recommended channels, suggested categories, and the other promoted sections in one go, leaving only the people you follow. It works on Twitch and on Kick.
This is the heavier option of the two. Hiding Stories alone is a small tidy-up; hiding every section turns the sidebar into a pure followed-channels list. Both toggles are independent, so you can use either or both.
| Setting | What it removes | Twitch | Kick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hide Stories in Sidebar | The Stories row | Yes | Not applicable |
| Hide All Sidebar Sections Except The Followed Channels | Recommended, suggested, and other promoted sections | Yes | Yes |
What to do with the space you just freed
Once the clutter is gone, the sidebar is worth using properly. Sidebar Favorites pins your top channels above everything else, and hover previews let you see what is happening on a stream without clicking into it - both of which matter more when the list is not buried.
- Sidebar Favorites - pin your top streamers to the top of the list, with optional custom categories.
- Sidebar Previews - hover any channel to see the stream live before you click.
- Auto Extend Sidebar - expands the followed list automatically so you are not clicking Show More every time.
- Full Sidebar Channel Tooltips - see complete channel names instead of truncated ones.
Frequently asked questions
Does Twitch have a setting to hide Stories?
No. There is no native option to turn Stories off, which is why extensions exist to do it. Previews hides them with a single toggle.
Does it hide Stories on the Following page too?
The toggle targets the Stories row in the left sidebar. If you want a broader clean-up, Hide All Sidebar Sections Except The Followed Channels removes the other promoted sections as well.
Do I need a separate extension just for this?
No, and that is rather the point. There are extensions that do nothing but hide Stories. In Previews it is one toggle among dozens of other quality-of-life features, so it is one install rather than several.
Will hiding sidebar sections break anything on Twitch?
No. The sections are hidden visually - nothing is blocked or altered on Twitch's side, and turning the toggle back off restores them immediately.
Does this work on Firefox?
Yes. Previews works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera, and other Chromium-based browsers.
